Dog & Cat Surgery in West Hartford & Kensington

Dog and cat surgery is a very important aspect of complete veterinary care and we provide this service at our animal hospital locations. We are able to offer a wide range or traditional surgical procedures, as well as more advanced procedures.

While we only do pet surgery at our West Hartford and Kensington locations, we are equipped to transport patients to West Hartford from our Glastonbury, Windsor, and Hartford locations, and return them after surgery.

What to Expect During Your Dog or Cat’s Surgery

Before a pet surgery, our veterinarians will recommend a pre-surgical physical examination and pre-anesthetic blood work to ensure that your pet is healthy enough for a surgical procedure. We use these diagnostics to determine if your pet has a pre-existing condition that could affect their ability to tolerate anesthetic drugs.

During your dog or cat’s surgery, we utilize surgical monitoring protocols including:

• Blood oxygen levels

• Blood pressure

• Body temperature

  • Body temperature is maintained using the Bair Hugger, a warm water heating blanket

• Echocardiogram

• Heart rate

• Pain management
