Trauma & Critical Care
In the unfortunate event of an emergency with your pet, technicians and a veterinarian are always here, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Upon your arrival with an emergency or very sick pet, all patients are quickly assessed by our experienced veterinary technicians in the ICU area. It is then determined by the doctor on duty whether it is medically safe for your pet to wait with you in an exam room, or needs immediate close monitoring in the Intensive Care. Most likely if your pet is having trouble breathing, is unconsious, in great pain, seizuring, or bleeding excessively, it will be required to stay in ICU.
The receptionists will continue to find out information from the owners, as well as any pertinent history of the presenting problem the pet was brought to our Emergency for.
If you are not a Connecticut Veterinary Center client, we will need your current Veterinarians information so we can be sure they are notified of your visit by fax right away.
Patients are seen in the order dictated by by the Emergency Doctor(s) on call. Our first priority is always the most critical patient that needs immediate attention by the Doctor. More routine and stable cases will be seen in the order in which they arrive. If a wait is required, we hope you will understand the need to treat critical patients first. We will do our best to keep you updated on the wait time as best as we can. Please feel free to approach any staff member at any time if you feel your pets medical status has changed during your wait, or if you have any questions or concerns at all.
