About Us

We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local practices when special diagnostic procedures are required. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house x-ray capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and indoor boarding kennels with outdoor walking areas.
At the Connecticut Veterinary Center we strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn't feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy.
History of Caring

The Connecticut Veterinary Center opened its doors in November 1958, a single Doctor practice. In the early years, the only help was a young neighbor. The Doctor, himself, answered the phones, took care of the office duties, did laboratory work and the general maintenance upkeep a practice requires on a daily basis, including keeping the kennels clean. A common sight would be the Doctor mowing the grass and washing windows. Now the practice has in house specialists as well as general practitioners.
As the years passed and the practice became established, the Connecticut Veterinary Center acquired a staff that took over some of the chores, freeing the founder to devote more time to the care of patients and developing well known reputation for caring.
As each successive year passed, the continual growth of client volume increased the professional staff. With that addition, the 24-hour emergency service or PET E. R. was introduced, with hospital staff on duty to provide clients with round the clock full medical attention. In addition, our PET ER serves area referral veterinarians and their clients. Since then, Connecticut Veterinary Center has opened additional practices in Kensington, Windsor, and Glastonbury.

These satellite facilities were established with the idea of comprehensive medical and surgical care for animal patients in mind. With the aid of an in-house transportation service, satellite offices are able to transfer their clients’ pets to the West Hartford office where we have available various diagnostic capabilities to ensure that all pets are treated immediately and medically appropriate. We have the capability to perform ultrasounds, endoscopy, and blood transfusions via our in-house blood bank. We also have available blood gas analysis and in-house blood chemistries. Most diagnostic and treatment procedures can be handled within the hospital. Evening, weekend, and holiday emergencies are handled by our in-house Emergency and Critical Care facility in West Hartford.
As a member of the American Animal Hospital Association, the Connecticut Veterinary Center adheres to their rigid requirements for quality medical care, as well as, participating in comprehensive inspections.
An accredited AAHA hospital member, this hospital must meet the Association’s high standards for quality veterinary care. Our hospital is regularly evaluated by trained AAHA professionals to ensure that we maintain their hospital standards and provide the best veterinary care.
